The “Big Uglies”: Nearing the Top

Just a day away from revealing the top spot, the second- and third-best O-linemen are revealed.

Continuing a series that's been going since February, I've finally come to the final position to break down -- the overlooked folks up front whose stats include "pancakes" and "grade", otherwise known as the offensive linemen.

I've tinkered with a list compiled by Greg Riddle of The Dallas Morning News and Rivals.com's Barton Simmons a while back and there's been some changes, but here goes nothing. There are nine players here, we'll do two or three a day until we got to No. 1.

Denton Ryan's Garrett Gramling and Pilot Point's Cam Feldt were Nos. 9 and 8, respectively. Then, we added No. 7 Josh Allen of Cedar Hill and No. 6 Daryl Williams of Lake Dallas, and Dalvin Glass and Evan Washington of Dallas Carter and DeSoto, respectively.

Today, we reveal the No. 2 and No. 3 offensive linemen in the Metroplex of the incoming senior class.

So make that drum sound with your mouth that I can't make, and prepare yourselves...

3. Austin Woods, Rockwall-Heath HS - Check out the Rivals.com Top 250, and it's easy to see that Woods is a legitimate college lineman. He's listed at No. 197 among incoming seniors nationally, regardless of position. Woods, a 6 foot 5, 290-pound center is what colleges drool over. A big, hulking, athletic and smart center who paved the way for one of the most prolific running backs around last year, Kendial Lawrence, who signed with Missouri in February. Woods has 13 big-time college offers, but doesn't have the bigger offers from the powers around here -- Texas and Oklahoma.

2. Adam Shead, Cedar Hill HS - The second Longhorns offensive lineman to show up on this countdown, he and Josh Allen remind me of a similar combo from Denton Guyer this past season, Kyle Clark and Jesse Coffey, who were both mammoth offensive tackles and signed with Texas Tech and Nebraska in February. Shead, a 6 foot 4 inch, 315-pound guard is a big, bad boy. He coupled with Allen to make things easy for Texas A&M commit running back Ben Malena. He's sitting on nine major-college offers.
