The “Big Uglies”: A Countdown

A look at the top offensive line recruits in the Class of 2010

Continuing a series that's been going since February, I've finally come to the final position to break down -- the overlooked folks up front whose stats include "pancakes" and "grade", otherwise known as the offensive linemen.

I've tinkered with a list compiled by Greg Riddle of The Dallas Morning News and Rivals.com's Barton Simmons a while back and there's been some changes, but here goes nothing. There are nine players here, we'll do two or three a day for the remainder of the week.

9. Garrett Gramling, Denton Ryan HS - Gramling is a man-beast at 6 foot 6 inches, 305 pounds. He was the key cog up front for a Ryan offense that set all kinds of school records and saw its quarterback, Scotty Young, nearly eclipse Graham Harrell's Texas preps record for touchdown passes in a season, tossing 65 (two shy of the record). Young was rarely touched in the backfield, and Gramling was his blind-side protection. He committed to Texas A&M over the weekend.

8. Cam Feldt, Pilot Point HS - Feldt, the son of a former Texas Tech offensive lineman, and Pilot Point head coach Blake Feldt, committed to Arkansas before his junior season, meaning it could still very well be up in the air where he'll end up come college. Feldt, a 6 foot 5 inch, 290-pound tackle has it all, and vastly improved on his athleticism last year. Some people might look at his 2A pedigree, but people should realize that when you're an offensive lineman in 2A, it's not the same as being a quarterback in 2A. If you're big, you're big, and Feldt is without a doubt big and strong. He's No. 54 on the Lone Star Recruiting's Top Texas 100, where debuted in the 80s. He's climbing fast, and could end up a four-star guy before his senior year ends. I wouldn't be shocked to see him change his commitment to follow in his father's footsteps.

Adam Boedeker is a sports writer/blogger for the Denton Record-Chronicle. He wonders what will come of newspapers and is thinking of the departed from The Dallas Morning News.
