Prosper Rallies Past Waco La Vega for 3A D-I Title

After trailing 10-3 at the half, Prosper rallies to 17-10 win.

Bryan Monroe rushed for 84 yards and the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter to help Prosper rally past Waco La Vega 17-10 in the Class 3A Division I championship game in Irving.

Prosper trailed 10-3 at halftime at Texas Stadium yesterday before quarterback Hunter Nix tied the score on a 2-yard keeper in the third quarter after an interception by Tucker Alexander.

Brett Thompson ran 33 yards to set up Monroe's winning 14-yard run with 2:55 remaining in the game.

La Vega went ahead 10-3 in the first half on quarterback Danzel Wilson's 51-yard scoring pass to Daxton Swanson down the sideline.

Prosper almost matched its first-half offensive output in penalty yardage, gaining 34 yards in 18 plays while committing 30 yards in penalties. The Eagles had just two first downs before halftime, one on a La Vega penalty.

Both teams fumbled twice in the first half, with Prosper recovering all four. A fumble recovery on a punt set up Prosper's only first-half score, a 20-yard field goal by Drew Bristol.

Prosper tried an onside kick to open the game, but it went out of bounds to give La Vega possession at the Prosper 39. Eddy Gonzales later kicked a 27-yard field goal for a 3-0 La Vega lead.

Prosper finishes at 14-1, while La Vega ends up at 12-3.
