Abby's Book Corner

Child's love of books inspires new children's library

There are thousands of books on the shelves in Abby's Book Corner at Medical City Children's Hospital of Dallas, all donated in the name of Abby Kearney.

In May of 2008, at just 13 months old, she was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.  Less than 24 hours after her diagnosis, she passed away.

While she was in the hospital, her parents had to purchase books from the gift shop to read to her.  They started Abby's Book Corner to make sure other parents had a way to comfort their children.

"We wanted to do something that was our normal routine, just for us and for her; something to kind of take us away from this horrific nightmare that we were experiencing," Mary Kearney said.

The Kearney's are still accepting book donations through an Amazon.com wish list for the hospital in Dallas as well as Plano and San Antonio hospitals.
