Catherine Ross is NBC 5’s journalist based in Plano. Don’t be surprised if you see her around town with a camera and tripod in tow – Catherine is a video journalist, which means she shoots, edits and writes her own video and content.
Working in the Texas heat is a far cry from her last job. Catherine was previously an anchor and reporter in Minot, North Dakota, where it’s not unheard of to see wind chills of 50 degrees below zero during the winters. You could say it builds character. In 2011, Western North Dakota saw a crippling blizzard on April 30th! Aside from the notorious weather, Catherine fell in love with the warm spirit of the Upper Midwest. She’s hoping southern hospitality is everything it’s cracked up to be.
While she was born and raised in Connecticut, Catherine has also worked in television in Billings, Montana and as an assignment desk assistant in Chicago. She’s a proud graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism (and an ever-optimistic Wildcats fan!).
If she wasn’t reporting news, Catherine would be covering sports (although it’s probably best she separates business from pleasure in her professional endeavors). After all, “devoted” is not a strong enough word to describe her feelings toward the New York Jets. She’s also a pathetically loyal Mets fan, although she’ll happily jump on the Rangers bandwagon, except during interleague play or a potential World Series matchup. Don’t get her started on Big 10 football or UCONN basketball unless you have an hour or two to kill…
Her favorite part of being a reporter is having the privilege to tell real people’s stories. While she has fun with her job, she holds herself to the highest standards of accuracy and maintaining credibility.
Catherine is always looking for ideas in Plano and around Collin County, so don’t be a stranger!
