Texas Pet Store Owner Sues Delta Air Lines Over Dead Lizards

A West Texas pet store owner has sued Delta Air Lines over the 2014 deaths of 10 sungazer lizards being transported from South Africa.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported Friday that Ryan Blakley, of Wild Ryno Inc. seeks up to $100,000 in damages. Blakley does business as Walter's World of Pets.

A Delta representative declined comment on the lawsuit filed Tuesday in Lubbock.

Blakley hired Delta to transport the lizards from Johannesburg to Miami in May 2014. The trip included a layover in Atlanta, where the lawsuit says a dog being transported was found dead.

The lawsuit says all animals on the flight were quarantined. Blakley was later informed that all died.

The lawsuit doesn't list a value of the lizards, which can grow to more than a foot long.
