Texas Bus Passenger Sentenced to 15 Years for Smuggling Meth in Shampoo Bottle

A bus passenger in South Texas has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for trying to smuggle methamphetamine across the border in a shampoo bottle.

A federal judge in Corpus Christi on Tuesday sentenced 34-year-old Pedro Guerra-Ruiz of Rio Grande City. Guerra-Ruiz pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Guerra-Ruiz was arrested Feb. 1 at the Sarita checkpoint when Border Patrol agents boarded the commercial bus during inspections. Investigators say Guerra-Ruiz had a backpack with an obviously altered shampoo bottle. The contents yielded meth.

Guerra-Ruiz told authorities that he was being paid $1,000 to transport the methamphetamine to Houston.
