Teen Burglar Rescued From Chimney After 10 Hours

Got suck around 3 a.m.; cries for help were heard by neighbors

A teenage burglary suspect spent a grueling 10 hours stuck in a chimney before firefighters rescued him, police in an Atlanta suburb said.

Ranaldo Jack, 17, was heard by neighbors as he screamed for help in the early afternoon, said Corporal Jake Smith, spokesman for the Gwinnett County Police Department. Firefighters responded and climbed onto the roof and rescued the teen with ropes. He was uninjured, Smith said.

Edyn Rodriguez, told Channel 2 Action News that he was standing in his driveway when he heard cries coming from across the street.

“He said, ‘Help me! Help me!” Rodriguez said. “Man, never in my life! … I called 911.”

Police arrested the teen on one count of burglary and another of providing a false name to police. The owner of the house was not at home during the incident, authorities said.

Jack, who was rescued about 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, told cops he'd gotten stuck on the way down at about 3 a.m. He initially gave police a false name, but authorities already knew he was, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
