Someone robbed the ABC Convenience store in Fort Worth with a gun, but the store owner was also armed -- with soda cans.

A man walked up to the drive-through window and pointed a gun at the clerk late Monday night. The clerk, 23-year-old Amer Turabi thought the man was joking. But when he fired a round, Turabi knew he wasn't joking.

"'Just bring all the money here and let me go.' I told him, 'OK,'" Turabi said. "You know, I'm scared. I think he's not playing."

Faris Malalha, the store's owner, was in the back when he heard the commotion and saw the man trying to squeeze through the window to come into the store.

"'He got a gun! Go far away! Go far away,'" Malalha remembers the other employees yelling.

Instead, Malalha ran to the front of the counter and opened up a case of Pepsi and started throwing cans at the man as hard as he could.

"When I started to throw the can, he said, 'I'm going to shoot! I'm going to shoot! I'm going to shoot,'" Malalha said. "I hit him twice, three times in the face. But you know, he keeps going inside. Inside."

Despite being pelted with cans, the man still crawled into the store. Malalha escaped out the front door and across the parking lot to use a pay phone to call Fort Worth police.

No employees were hurt, but the man got away after stealing some money.

"Oh yeah, man, I'm (a) lucky man," Turabi said.

But Malalha doesn't think so. He said he keeps a loaded gun behind the counter. Had he been by the register, the robber wouldn't have been so lucky, he said.

"You know, if I'm behind the counter, and he starts there, when he starts coming, I got to shoot him," Malalha said.
