San Antonio Officer To Be Fired For Challenging Arrested Man To Fight

A San Antonio police officer is set to be fired for an incident in which he challenged a man he had arrested to a fight.

The San Antonio Express-News reports Officer Matthew Belver was given an indefinite suspension last month for the August incident.

According to dashcam video obtained by the newspaper, Belver had arrested Eloy Leal and placed him in the back of his police car.

After the two men exchanged words, Belver can be heard saying "let's take the cuffs off" before taking off the handcuffs and pulling Leal out of the car.

But Leal didn't' engage in the fight.

San Antonio police says Belver is appealing his firing.

Leal was charged with interfering with the duties of a public servant, but that charge was later dropped.
