Rosenberg police are trying to determine if $432,000 stuffed inside a propane tank and an old television is tied to illegal activity.

An officer last week pulled over a truck on U.S. 59 in the Houston suburb and his dog honed in on a cardboard box. Inside the box, authorities found the money in the gas canister and TV -- all in rolled-up $20 bills.

Lt. Colin Davidson told Houston television station KTRK Tuesday he's never seen money stored that way inside pieces of junk.

The driver, identified only as from Houston, was released. The money, for now, is in the police evidence room.

While not illegal to carry the cash, U.S. 59, stretching to the Mexican border, is known for drug seizures and human trafficking busts.
