A pineapple hand grenade looks similar to this one, minus the tape.

A man cleaning out a rental property in Duncanville Thursday was shocked to find a hand grenade among a deceased former tenant's belongings.

The property owner was cleaning the rental home on the 200-block of Moore Street when he found what he described to police as a pineapple hand grenade.

Not wanting the device inside the home, the man took it out into the yard and called the Duncanville Police Department.

Officers arrived at the home and, after seeing the device, summoned the Dallas Police Department's Bomb Squad.

The bomb squad determined the device was not functioning and took it to a remote location to be destroyed.
