An Alaska mom who made her adopted swish hot sauce in his mouth in a bizarre attempt to get on the "Dr. Phil" show faces a year in prison after being convicted of abuse.

Jessica Beagley, 36, made a videotape of the attack to show the televsion host how she punished the adopted Russian boy and sent it to the show. The tape shows her shouting at the sobbing child, then tipping his chin up and pouring hot sauce in his mouth. It was punishment for sword-fighting with pencils in school.

Police in Anchorage got calls from viewers after the show aired last October.

Beagley and her husband, a police officer, walked quickly from the courtroom and down a set of stairs after the verdict on Tuesday, acording to The Associated Press. Beagley could face the maximum sentence of one year in jail, a $10,000 fine and up to 10 years of probation when she is sentenced Monday, said District Judge David Wallace.

Beagley and her husband adopted the twins in 2008 when they were 5, and after they had spent three years in a Russian orphanage. One twin adjusted to his new home, but the abused boy had a difficult time. Beagley's attorney said she turned to unconventional forms of punishment when spankings, time-outs and restricting television didn't work.

"It is our feeling Jessica was doing the best she could. ... This is a very good, loving family," attorney William Ingaldson said.

When the episode, "mommy Confessions," aired  on Oct. 21, 2010, it sparked public outrage in Russia, with some people demanding the boy and his twin brother be returned to their native country.
