Man Gouged Out Uncle's Eyes in Fight Over Remote: Cops

62-year-old victim blinded in one eye after attack

An Illinois man allegedly gouged out his uncle's eyeballs in a fight over a remote control, according to police.

The incident occurred on New Year's Eve, according to the Joliet Herald-News. The 62-year-old victim, who was left blind in one eye and requiring surgery in the other, said his nephew, 32, attacked him over the channel surfing device.

When officers from the Will County Sheriff's Department arrived, a deputy found the victim with blood streaming from his eyes.

Authorities said the the man's eyeballs were protruding from his eye sockets and that the victim told deputies his nephew used his thumbs in the attack.

"Both of his eyeballs were swollen, dislocated and were protruding approximately a quarter-inch from the eye sockets,” police said.

The nephew was arrested on a charge of aggravated domestic battery. A judge ordered him held on $1 million bond Tuesday.
