Stolen Justin Bieber Street Sign Found

The road sign for Justin Bieber Way in Forney that came down a lot earlier than anticipated has been recovered, Mayor Darren Rozell tells NBCDFW.com.

The street sign was thought to be stolen Wednesday night, just hours after installation, city officials said.

Mayor Rozell said he got a phone call Thursday night from a group of teens who claim they accidentally broke the sign.

"They were apparently goofing off and hanging from the sign when it broke off," Rozell said during a phone interview early Friday morning.   "They got scared and ran off with it."

Bieber Way, or Main Street, was temporarily named for the teen heartthrob by 11-year-old Caroline Gonzalez. Gonzalez was named the town's mayor for one day and said she'd hoped to rename the street after the singing superstar.

Mayor Rozell and city officials granted her wish in a surprise ceremony Wednesday.  They'd planned to keep the sign up through the weekend.  The missing sign was replaced by a duplicate $20 sign and is now protected by a surveillance camera.

Rozell will be speaking with authorities today to determine if any charges should be filed in the case of the missing sign.
