Forney has a new mayor today, and today only. Well, until the next election but that’s another story.

For today, though, 11-year-old Caroline Gonzalez reigns as Forney’s mayor for a day, an honorary title she won because of her community service and an essay explaining why she deserved the position.

Her first “official” act, according to an Associated Press article receiving national play, had little or nothing to do with civil service and everything to do with a young girl’s crush.

She proposed a name change for a segment of the town’s Main Street, henceforth — probably for the duration of her time in office — known as Justin Bieber Way as a tribute to her favorite teeny-bopper, and is that still a viable term for entertainers of Bieber’s age and fan base?

The town planned a ceremony for today during which a temporary sign, made by the city for a whopping $20, rechristened the street in Bieber’s honor and Gonzalez’s whimsy.

Hey, with the power of office come the perks. She might just have a future in politics.

UPDATE: The city said the Justin Bieber Way sign will be up through the weekend.

Bruce Felps owns and operates East Dallas Times, an online community news outlet serving the White Rock Lake area. He hopes she gets over Bieber’s pass on attending the ceremony.
