Delaware's Punkin Chunkin Gets a New Home

An annual pumpkin flinging contest that draws thousands of people to Delaware has a new home.

Officials announced Thursday that the World Championship Punkin Chunkin event will be held at the Dover International Speedway. This year marks the 28th year of the event in which teams will compete to hurl a pumpkin as far as possible using slingshots, catapults, air cannons and other mechanical devices.

The contest will be held Oct. 24 through Oct. 26 on the speedway grounds.

The Science Channel will be recording the event for a television show that is scheduled to air Nov. 29.

The event had previously been held in Bridgeville.
