Cougar on the Loose Near San Antonio

San Antonio police are recommending that residents of the city's far west side remain indoors after a wild cougar escaped from a wildlife sanctuary.

Police have been securing the area and searching for the cougar after it escaped from the animal sanctuary on Friday morning.

Monica Faulkenbery, a Northside Independent School District spokeswoman, says five area schools were not allowing children outside and were asking parents of children who normally walked home to instead pick up their children on Friday afternoon.

She says a high school that has an agricultural program has secured its barn.
