Cold Kills More Turtles, 40 Remain in Rehab Facility

Nine sea turtles rescued from the cold along the Gulf of Mexico have died as dozens of others are cared for at the Texas State Aquarium and a rehab site.

Experts said blankets and warm-water baths are being used to nurse about 40 sea turtles back to health after last week's cold snap.

Donna Shaver with the Padre Island National Seashore's turtle recovery program says the green sea turtles, stunned by the cold weather, came ashore near Port Aransas.

The turtles are being kept in warm pools at the Animal Rehabilitation Keep and at the aquarium in Corpus Christi until the temperature is safe to return them go the Gulf.

Shaver said rehab efforts could take several weeks.
