JACKIE GALLOWAY WINS BRONZE IN TAEKWONDO
Two North Texans competed in taekwondo in their first Olympic appearances on Saturday.
Wylie High School graduate and Southern Methodist University student Jackie Galloway bringing home bronze in the +67kg (160-pound) weight class. Galloway defeated Puerto Rico's Crystal Weekes in the first match 5-0. In the quarterfinal round she beat Reshmie Oogink from the Netherlands. Galloway lost to Mexico's Maria Espinoza in the semifinals, but returned to battle for bronze. Galloway beat Gwladys Epangue 201 to win bronze.
Colleyville Heritage High School graduate Stephen Lambdin competed in the +80kg (176-pound) "heavyweight" class. Lambdin lost in his first round to Brazil's Maicon Siqueira.
TERVEL DLAGNEV GETS TO THE BRONZE MEDAL MATCH

Arlington High School graduate Tervel Dlagnev finished fifth in the London games. In Rio, Dlagnev compete in the 125-kg (275-pound) class in hopes of bronze.
Dlagnev overcame a 5 point deficit to win his first match to beat Jamaladdin Magomedov 6-5. He then went on to beat Poland's Robert Baran 3-2 in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal round he fell to Komeil Ghasemi from Iran.
In the bronze medal match Dlagnev lost to Geno Petriashvili from Georgia 10-0.
TWO NORTH TEXAS TRACK STARTS WIN GOLD
North Texas athletes won two of the seven event finals Saturday night.
Allyson Felix and the rest of the U.S. women defended their 2012 title in the 4x400m relay. Carrollton Newman Smith High School grad Courtney Okolo was among the women who won gold.
Meanwhile, Rowlett High School grad Kyle Clemons helped Team USA men get to the 4x400m relay final Saturday night where they easily won gold.
GERINA PILLER STRUGGLES IN FINAL ROUND OF GOLF
Flower Mound resident Gerina Piller went into the final round of golf in third place behind Lydia Ko (-9) from New Zealand and Inbee Park (-11) from South Korea. Piller was two shots back of Park and tied for second with Ko.
But Saturday was not Piller's day, she fell out of medal contention.
TAMIKA CATCHINGS AND TEAM USA WIN GOLD
Duncanville's Tamika Catchings ends her Olympic basketball career with another gold medal.
The U.S. women's basketball team has won a sixth consecutive Olympic gold medal, routing Spain 101-72 at the Rio Games. The Americans have now won 49 consecutive games in the Olympics, with only one of those decided by single digits. The men's team goes for the gold tomorrow against Serbia.
