Taiwanese Man Pleads Guilty in Texas-Iran Tech Case

A Taiwanese businessman has pleaded guilty in Texas to violating U.S. laws banning the shipping of electronics technology to Iran.

Prosecutors in San Antonio say 44-year-old Kunlin Hsieh was a sales manager for Junbon Enterprises Co. Ltd. in Taiwan.

Hsieh pleaded guilty Thursday to conspiring to ship U.S. communications technology to Iran. Prosecutors say he violated the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and other regulations.

Hsieh faces up to 20 years in prison. A co-defendant awaits trial. Both were arrested last August in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Investigators say Hsieh from late 2007 to summer 2014 conspired to obtain circuit boards from U.S. companies without disclosing the items were destined for Iran. The parts could be used for civilian or military operations.
