Groupon's going to the Super Bowl -- and not at half-price.

The Chicago-based website just scored an ad during Sunday's big game. Though Super Bowl ads usually sell out by October and Crain's Chicago reported that Groupon originally was turned away, the deals site is back in the game.

Ad spots are going for $3 million for 30 seconds.

Few details about the ad are available except for who's directing it: filmmaker Christopher Guest, known for mockumentaries "Waiting for Guffman," "Best in Show" and "This Is Spinal Tap."

This will be Groupon's first foray into TV advertising. Up until now the company has relied on online ads and word of mouth.

Chief Operating Officer Rob Solomon told Crain's in a statement that after two years in business and 50 million subscribers, Groupon is ready to engage an even wider audience.
