Haltom defensive end Reggie Wilson, a native of the volatile war-torn African nation, Ivory Coast, has verbally committed to play football for Mack Brown and the University of Texas, adding to a long, distinguished list of high school juniors who have committed to Texas.

As was documented on this very Web site a few weeks back, Wilson has done an awful lot to be sure he has his chance to attend college at no cost to him.

His 88 tackles and nine sacks was good enough to land him on the Rivals.com Top 250 list, which is the top 250 players in the country, regardless of position, in the Class of 2010.

Wilson is the No. 20 player on the list, and the third-ranked defensive end in the nation, the top-ranked being Plano West's Jackson Jeffcoat. Wilson is the 17th Class of 2010-er on the Rivals 250 list who's given an early commitment to Brown & Co., by far the most of any school in the country.

As you can see, the Longhorns have fared fantastically with 21 early commitments -- all top-notch players -- and you can read a little more about Wilson's past and bright future.

At 6 foot, 4 inches, 240 pounds, Wilson will undoubtedly put on even more muscle once he arrives on the 40 acres and won't have any problem being an immediate contributor, or force, in the Big 12.

As usual, Texas recruits, especially early commitments, are blue chip guys, and Wilson is no different. He passed up on offers from the following schools when he became on Longhorn on Friday: Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Arkansas, Cal, Colorado, Florida State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, USC and Stanford.

Of course, Wilson won't officially be a Longhorn until he signs his national letter of intent on Feb. 3, 2010 -- the first day recruits can do so.
