Unwanted in Dallas, Marion Apparently Headed to Indiana or Cleveland

The Mavs are done with Shawn Marion. But looks like the Pacers are just getting started.

Marion, the do-it-all player with a Mavs’ championship ring, is no longer in Dallas’ plan in the wake of the acquisition of Chandler Parsons. But Marion met Monday with Pacers’ president Larry Bird as Indiana attempts to fill its void left by Paul George’s devastating injury.

The Cavaliers, and born-again team savior LeBron James, are also courting Marion.

A former All-Star with a ring, Marion obviously will want to play for a title contender. The Mavs will miss Marion, who did lots of dirty work and guarded every position other than center. They decided, however, that they needed more scoring from the small forward position, so enter Parsons.

As weird as it’s going to be seeing Tyson Chandler back in a Mavs’ uniform next season, it’ll be just as strange seeing Marion return to American Airlines Center in the colors of Indiana or Cleveland.
