Unsigned With Cowboys, Bryant Takes Time to Recruit for Mavs

So while his agents frantically try to negotiate his football contract, Dez Bryant is focused on baseball and basketball?

Sure enough. The Cowboys’ receiver played in Dirk Nowitzki’s charity baseball game over the weekend and has promised to the help the Mavericks in their recruitment of free-agent center DeAndre Jordan.

A player unhappy with his contract in Dallas attempting to lure a star to sign a contract in Dallas. This should be interesting.

We’ve seen teams get creative in recruiting free agents. Photo-shopped images. Celebrity endorsements. Rolling billboards driving past the players’ houses. But using America’s Team surely can’t hurt the process.

The Mavs have historically whiffed on landing big-name free agents, but Bryant has a friendship with Jordan and has also said he’ll be willing to recruit coveted free agent and Texas native LaMarcus Aldridge to the Mavs. Owner Jerry Jones and quarterback Tony Romo might also be involved on some level from appearing in a video pitch to making a simple phone call.

Here’s hoping someday Bryant isn’t having another star trying recruit him out of Dallas.
