Former Texas quarterback Vince Young has been hired by the school for community relations and fundraising.
UT spokeswoman Leslie Blair said Thursday that Young will earn $100,000 annually.
Young led the Longhorns to the 2005 national championship before turning pro. He hasn't played in an NFL regular-season NFL game since 2011.
Young spent five seasons with Tennessee. He started three games for the Eagles in 2011. He spent part of two preseasons with Buffalo and Green Bay. Young was signed May 1 by Cleveland, but released after the Browns drafted Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel, who as a freshman won the Heisman Trophy.
Young, who in 2013 earned a bachelor's degree from UT in applied learning and development, will work in programs supporting first-generation college students and students from low-income backgrounds.
