Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach missed another deadline today to sign a new contract.

Athletic director Gerald Myers says Leach declined the five-year, $12.7 million contract offer.

Now the Lubbock school's board of regents plans to convene Friday to discuss his job.

Leach told The Associated Press he's happy with the remaining two years of his current contract, which pays $2.65 million next season and $2.35 million in 2010.

Both sides essentially agreed on a five-year deal -- but negotiations hung up on several clauses.

One new provision would trigger Leach's firing and a $1.5 million penalty if he interviews for another job without permission from Myers.

Regents -- a couple of hours before today's 5 p.m. (central time) deadline -- posted notice for a "special called teleconference" Friday.

The executive session personnel matter lists the position of football head coach.
