TCU, Fort Worth Go Purple for Horned Frogs Football

The college football season is about to get underway across the country and one North Texas school is one of the first to take to the gridiron.

The TCU Horned Frogs, the second-ranked team in the nation, kicks off the season in Minnesota on Thursday night.

Campus may not be as loud as a home game, but at the 8 p.m. kick-off, plenty of students will be watching in the commons on campus on a big screen.

And whether you're on campus or at city hall, everyone in Fort Worth is pulling out their purple and pulling for the Frogs. On Thursday, the campus was nearly covered in purple clad students who are excited for their school to show what they can do.

"We didn't expect everyone to wear purple, but we went to our first class and literally everyone was in purple, so that was fun," said freshman Abigail Mead.

"The buzz is everywhere, everyone is talking about [it], everyone is out in their purple today," said freshman Denver Fesmire. "Everyone is very excited."

Go Purple Fridays got moved up a day as the team takes on the Golden Gophers in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Students and parents not fully satisfied with their TCU gear hit up stores like Flash: The University Store on the edge of campus before game time.

"Even though its an away game, it's going to get crazy tonight and be a lot of fun," said Mead.

From shirts to signs and from campus to car lots, the whole city is buying in, including Mayor Betsy Price, who thinks the Horned Frogs will win it all this year and is urging the city to support the local team.

"Go Purple Fridays, every Friday throughout football season, we'll turn this city purple," Mayor Price said.

Even the city's new website design switched from its standard blue to purple on Thursday. Elsewhere on the internet, famous alums like Andy Dalton tweeted their support for the Frogs and staff members posed for pictures in their purple.
