This is the part where we become irrational. Where folks who predicted the Cowboys would win 6 games this season suddenly stake them as Super Bowl favorites. And where critics-turned-believers squint a little bit and foresee … 9-1?
Doug Free’s out. Tony Romo’s not practicing. DeMarco Murray’s carrying too heavy a load. Blah, blah and more blah.
The Cowboys may not be the best team in the NFL, but they are undoubtedly on the best roll. Romo’s spinning away from sacks for highlight-film completions and Rod Marinelli is working nothing short of miracles with a defense predicted the worst in NFL history.
And just like that, a team that started with 50/1 Super Bowl odds is now expected to be 9-1 heading into late November. Expected, as in, favored in the the next four games it plays.
The Cowboys will be favored by Las Vegas oddsmakers over the Giants Sunday afternoon in Arlington, and again in home games against the Redskins and Cardinals, and obviously in their London trip to play the hapless Jaguars.
Unless they wake up from this improbable dream, that’s a 9-1 start, the likes the Cowboys haven’t seen since they started 12-1 in 2007.
Sometimes you can’t explain a hot streak. You just need to ride it.
