Student Taking Houston Texans Cheerleader to Prom

A Texas high school student has snagged his dream date for this year's prom. Thanks to the power of social media, he'll be escorting an NFL cheerleader.

After a little nudging from his friend, 17-year-old Mike Ramirez, a football player from Crosby High School, got the courage to get on Twitter and ask Caitlyn, a Houston Texans cheerleader, to be his prom date.

Per team policy, the Texans do not release the full names of their cheerleaders.

He made his offer during a direct message conversation that started after she followed his account.

"I was all, like, 'Well, if I get 10,000 retweets, will you go to prom with me?'" Ramirez recalled.

It didn't take long for Caitlyn to make a decision. She said her "immediate reaction was, 'Absolutely.'"

Once she got the sign off with her coach and team, she accepted her admirer's challenge. Almost immediately Ramirez's retweet campaign went viral.

"When I got to school, that's when it started going up more and more," said Ramirez. "I got to 3,000, 4,000. I got from like 6,000 to 8,000 in maybe like 30 minutes."

The response surprised Caitlyn as well.

"I didn't really think it was going to explode that fast, but tons of people were retweeting it. Some big pages," said Caitlyn.

Then Friday, about 24 hours after his quest began, Ramirez hit 10,000 retweets and got the confirmation from Caitlyn.

"I'm excited. I feel like I'm back in high school," said Catilyn. "I get to pick out a dress. I get to get my hair and make-up done."

Ramirez is also preparing for the big date.

"I'm thinking maybe a Texans colored suit," said Ramirez. "Like blue bowtie, red bowtie, or some red shoes, blue suit, Texans colors."

There is a life lesson here, too.

"Some stuff may seem impossible, but it's not," said Ramirez. "You just got to take risks and some will pay off."
