Spieth Shoots Bogey-Free Round, Leads British Open

Sunday's final round can be seen on NBC 5 starting at 6 a.m.

Adding the British Open to the resume is within reach for Jordan Spieth. The Dallas native has never won the tournament across the pond. Things could change this weekend.

Spieth is looking the part of a champion right now at Royal Birkdale Golf Course in Southport, England. Of course, a bogey-free round will do that. He finished the day with a 5-under 65 to take a three-shot lead into Sunday’s final round.

Matt Kuchar was hanging around the top spot on the leaderboard for much of the third round. However, a double-bogey on No. 16 for Kuchar stopped the momentum and allowed Spieth to get one step closer to finally landing the Claret Jug.

The strong round for Spieth followed up his solid showing during Friday’s second round. He shot a 1-under 69 to take a two-shot lead going into weekend play.

Irving native Austin Connelly finished Saturday’s round tied for third at 5-under. The 20-year old had the shot of the day from the fairway on No.2 when he got the lucky bounce and found the bottom of the cup for an eagle.

Sunday’s final round can be seen on NBC 5 starting at 6 a.m.
