Spieth In Contention At Dean & DeLuca Invitational

For the second straight week, Jordan Spieth is making the weekend interesting again in North Texas.

The world’s number two ranked golfer made his move up the leaderboard during the second round of the Dean & DeLuca Invitational in Fort Worth. Spieth now enters the weekend two shots back of the clubhouse leader Bryce Molder at 7-under.

Last week, Spieth entered Sunday at the AT&T Byron Nelson in the final group, but slid down the leaderboard and finished out of contention after a 4-over 74.

So what’s the difference this time around? Trust.

Spieth seems to have more trust in his swing, something he appeared frustrated with before. He expressed last week how he didn’t feel comfortable over the ball. This time around, it appears to be the opposite.

“I’d say (my comfort level) is up there close to where I want to have it, 100 percent trust by major time,” said Spieth. “It’s creeping up. Big step up from last week. It’s getting close.”

During Friday’s second round, Spieth only had two bogeys on the card, at number 10 and 16. He finished at 4-under 66 for the day. The shot that best summed up his day may have been on the front nine, when Spieth stuck a 5-iron to six feet leaving an easy birdie putt on the par-3 4th hole.

“I feel really, really good over the ball right now,” said Spieth. “I got a little loose at the end of the round today. Fortunately still kept those on the green. My putting is coming around.”

So now there’s a little momentum going into weekend play. The only question will be whether Spieth can maintain it and avoid a repeat of that final round in Irving.
