Not surprisingly because it’s the NHL and the playoffs, there’s been little news where Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin's injury is concerned.
Seguin missed most of the final month of the regular season with a cut achilles suffered on March 17, before returning in the Game 2 victory against the Wild. In that game, though, he suffered an injury related to the initial injury and hasn’t seen the ice since.
Stars general manager Jim Nill finally gave something of an update on Seguin on Wednesday. Kind of.
“He can't skate yet, I can say that,” Nill said. “He's day to day, and once he gets on the ice, it's probably four to five days from there.”
Based on that statement, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News figures Seguin will miss the first two games, and probably more than that.
It’s a big loss, to be certain—Seguin is one of just two All-Stars on the roster along with Jamie Benn, and the fourth leading scorer in the NHL since the beginning of the 2013-2014 season—but Nill has been encouraged by the way the team has responded to his absence.
"I have to give a lot of credit to our team for stepping up," Nill said. "From the top player all the way through, they have responded to Tyler's injury and we have played some of our best hockey after that. I think when you look at the pressure of fighting for the division championship and having to do that without one of your best players, it's a great accomplishment to finish first."
