Tanner Schafer threw two touchdown passes and Chance Cook ran for two more as Canadian beat Mason 34-7 to win the Class 2A Division I state championship Thursday.

Canadian (15-0) won its third state championship in four title games, all since 2007.

Schafer's touchdown passes gave him 51 for the season. He completed 22 of 28 for 232 yards. Cook had a game-high 80 rushing yards in 12 carries.

In the final regular-season AP 2A poll, Canadian was ranked third and Mason fifth. Mason (14-1) knocked off No. 1 Refugio in the Region 4 final, and Canadian beat No. 2 Mart in the state semifinals.

Mason had taken a 7-0 lead on Miguel Castillo's 1-yard run with 4:56 remaining in the first quarter.

Canadian scored twice in the second quarter, on Schafer's 19-yard pass to Cameron Copley and Marc Marquez's 1-yard run, for a 14-7 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Mason turnovers led to two more Canadian touchdowns. Ryan Royse took a pass from Schafer for a 9-yard score after Copley's fumble recovery, and Braiden Galla's interception set up Cook's 11-yard touchdown run.

Cook scored again on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Copley had 105 receiving yards on six catches, and Galla caught eight passes for 58 yards.

Canadian had entered the game averaging 51 points per game. Their defense shut down a Mason offense averaging 43 points. Castillo carried 20 times for 73 yards and passed for 45 yards.

Mason was in a state championship game for the second time. Eleven current seniors were with the 2011 Class 1A Division I champions.
