Scandrick Absent as Offseason Program Begins

The Dallas Cowboys offseason conditioning program opened on Monday at Valley Ranch

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick didn’t show up for the opening of the team’s offseason conditioning program on Monday at Valley Ranch, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, making him a conspicuous no-show along with receiver Dez Bryant.

Bryant’s absence was more predictable than Scandrick’s, of course.

The Pro Bowl receiver was given the franchise tag this offseason, but has yet to sign his tender in hopes that he and the team can work out a long-term deal. Players in that position almost never attend voluntary workouts.

Scandrick’s absence comes as more of a surprise but, according to Rapoport, it’s also probably the result of contract issues. While Scandrick has a deal in place--he’s signed through 2018--he is set to make a relatively modest $1.5 million in 2015.

Over the past couple years, Scandrick has become the Cowboys most reliable cornerback. In 2015, he recorded 55 tackles, a sack, a pair of forced fumbles and a pair of sacks.
