SMU Going to Hawaii for Christmas

Ponies to play in Hawaii Bowl.

The Southern Methodist football team will play in its first bowl game in 25 years.

On Monday, SMU accepted an invitation to play in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl on December 24.

A formal announcement is expected on the SMU campus Tuesday afternoon.

SMU finished the season with 7 wins and 5 losses. The football program has had only two winning seasons in the past 20 years.

The Mustangs could play one of three opponents including, Hawaii, Nevada or Fresno State.

SMU has not played in a bowl game since 1984.

SMU's current football coach, June Jones will be returning to Hawaii as SMU head coach for the first time since he left the Hawaii football program in 2007.  Jones coached there from 1999-2007, turning that program around before taking the SMU job.
