Report: Cowboys Not Interested in Fred Jackson

Veteran running back Fred Jackson hit the market today when he was somewhat surprisingly released by the Buffalo Bills, which of course presents the question, could the Dallas Cowboys be interested?

This question has been asked about just about every free agent running back since DeMarco Murray left for Philadelphia back in March. But as was the case with all those other vets, according to the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys aren’t interested in Jackson.

As they’ve said since before the draft, and proved by not drafting a running back at all, the Cowboys are happy with the trio of Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar in the backfield.

Last season, Jackson had 525 yards rushing and another 501 yards receiving. At 34, he’s going into his 10th season in the NFL and his first with a team that’s not the Bills. A Fort Worth native and an Arlington Lamar product, Jackson’s pro career got started with indoor team, the Sioux City Bandits, in 2004. He also spent a season with the Rhein Fire of NFL Europa, in 2006.
