Rangers to Honor Young, Somehow

Franchise’s all-time hits leader get his night

Give Rangers third baseman Michael Young a hand. He deserves it after he became the franchise’s all-time hits leader at 1,748 ooching past Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez’s 1,747.

The club plans to give Young a rousting round of applause before the July 10 Rangers-Baltimore Orioles game, which has been pushed back to a 7:20 p.m. start time to make room for the commemorative ceremony, which begins at 7:05 p.m.

The night already was set aside as Michael Young Cap Night, oops, sorry, Coca-Cola and Walgreens Michael Young Cap Night — the first 20,000 fans in the park get a Rangers red and white cap, although I’m not real sure what designates them a Michael Young cap.

A call to the team’s Communications office resulted in a “Hmm, we don’t really know yet,” when asked what special presentation would be made to Young.

Still, 1,748 hits in 1,416 games deserves more than a laurel and hardy handshake.
