Rangers' Rebound in 2015 Begins With a Healthy Darvish

The Rangers’ long road back from 95 losses starts with Yu Darvish. If their ace isn’t healthy, nothing else will matter.

That what makes next Friday (Nov. 20) so important, when Darvish returns from Japan to have an MRI on his troublesome right elbow. Yes, prepare to hold your breath.

Darvish won 10 games in 2014 but never approached the dominance he showed in 2012-13. He won 10 games, but started the season on the disabled list with a stiff neck and missed the last month and a half with mild inflammation in his elbow.

General manager Jon Daniels, in Phoenix for baseball’s Winter Meetings, told reporters Monday that if Darvish checks out healthy he’ll begin throwing in December.

“He’s doing his normal offseason program,” Daniels said. “At this point, he typically doesn’t start throwing until December anyways, so he’s doing his normal conditioning, throwing, lifting. Get the MRI at the end of the month here, right before Thanksgiving, and he would go back to Japan.”

Obviously the Rangers need improve health in 2015, and that starts at the top with Darvish.
