Rangers Finally Make Move, Get Detwiler

The Texas Rangers had been lying in wait all week in San Diego, pursuing guys and seeing them go elsewhere in their search for pitching rotation depth heading into the 2015 season.

While the Rangers have never been known for making tons of moves in the actual MLB Winter Meetings, opting instead to make big moves after or before them, they did make a move as the meetings wrapped up on Thursday afternoon by acquiring Ross Detwiler from the Washington Nationals for a pair of minor-leaguers, according to Yahoo Sports.

Detwiler, 28, has been both a starter and reliever for the Nationals, but is believed to have been brought in by the Rangers to add depth to their starting rotation with only Yu Darvish, Derek Holland and Colby Lewis holding sure spots in the five-man rotation. He will be a free agent after the 2015 season, his final arbitration year.

Last season with the Nationals, Detwiler pitched exclusively out of the bullpen, posting a 4.00 ERA in 63 innings after missing much of 2013 with a back strain after making 13 starts with a 4.04 ERA. His last full, healthy season as a starter was 2012 when he went 10-8 with a 3.40 ERA.
