Rangers Add to Bullpen by Signing Fujikawa

It’s not a sexy move.

But a savvy one.

To strengthen their depleted bullpen, the Rangers signed right-handed reliever Kyuji Fujikawa.

Fujikawa, 34, played the last two seasons with the Cubs, amassing a 5.04 ERA over 27 appearances out of their bullpen.

He’s also returning from Tommy John surgery performed in the summer of 2013.

While the Cubs targeted Fujikawa as their closer, the Rangers will audition him as the one-inning setup man for closer Neftali Feliz.

The Rangers won’t generate national buzz with this signing, but they have at least started the process of building a bridge to Feliz.
