Rangers Acquire Another Catcher in Trade With Astros

Robinson Chirinos will have some competition at catcher in Spring Training as the Rangers this morning acquired Carlos Corporan from the Astros.

The deal, for minor-league pitcher Akeem Bostick, gives the Rangers two solid backstops a month ahead of the catchers and pitchers reporting to Surprise, Arizona.

Corporan, 30, is a career .226 hitter over four years with the Astros. Always a backup in Houston, he hit 17 homers in 594 at-bats and threw out 23 percent of attempted base-stealers.

In 93 games last season Chirinos hit .239 with 13 homers while throwing out 40 percent of base-stealers.
