Profar Could Join Rangers Down Stretch

With rosters expanding on Tuesday to 40 players, the Texas Rangers have already made some of their additions known, such as Joey Gallo, Luke Jackson and the activation of Josh Hamilton from the disabled list to serve as likely nothing more than a pinch-hitter.

Another player who could join the big-league roster for the Rangers is Jurickson Profar, the former consensus top prospect in baseball who hasn't played a big-league game in almost two years due to back-to-back seasons being ruined by shoulder injuries.

Profar, who's still only 22 years old, has basically been forgotten by Rangers fans due to his extended absence and the rise to relevance for fellow second base prospect Rougned Odor, who seems to have locked up that job for a good while as a 21-year-old.

Profar would only be able to serve as a pinch-runner and pinch-hitter as he still can't throw and is only to the point where he's throwing from 90 feet, but the Rangers' hope is that he'll move up soon and be ready to play in the Arizona Fall League to get him more prepared for the 2016 season.

“It’s a more controlled environment than winter ball and he can work with our training staff out there every day,” Daniels told the Dallas Morning News, speaking of the Fall League Profar is set to play in next month.
