Potential Target: Chase Daniel

In an ongoing thread of posts, we'll discuss potential free agent targets for the Dallas Cowboys coming off a 4-12 season, thanks in large part to several key injuries.

Target: Chase Daniel, QB

2015 stats: 2-for-2, 4 yards

OK, so Daniel's 2015 stats are just funny to look at — 2 completions for 4 yards is far from awe-inspiring, and his career stats don't stack up with the likes of Robert Griffin III or Johnny Manziel, even with as bad as Manziel has been in his two years in Cleveland. But Daniel is a really solid backup quarterback, enough so that Andy Reid loves him in Kansas City and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the Chiefs try to keep him around to back up Alex Smith.

Daniel is a former DFW prep star at Southlake Carroll and went on to set the world on fire at Missouri, bringing the Tigers back to prominence. He's served as a backup under Drew Brees for three years in New Orleans and has been under Reid in Kansas City behind Smith for three seasons. He's played sparingly, but he must be doing something right to have the kind of staying power he has.

He'd be cheaper than RG3 or Manziel and could be more stable and better for what the Cowboys are actually looking for, which isn't (or shouldn't be) to make a big splash.
