Ponies Over Hurricanes

Kyle Padron threw for 381 yards and three touchdowns to lead SMU to a 21-18 win over Tulsa on Saturday night. It was the fourth time in Padron's career he threw more than 300 yards and marked the best start for the Mustangs (4-2, 3-0 USA) since 1986 when they started 5-1.

The Golden Hurricane (3-3, 1-2) got on the board first with a short scoring run by quarterback G.J. Kinne early in the first quarter. But the Mustangs came back with Padron's three unanswered touchdown passes, one each to Darius Johnson, Cole Beasley and Bradley Haynes. They were up 21-7 early in the third quarter.

Tulsa's Kevin Fitzpatrick hit a field goal later in the third quarter and Kinne ran for his second TD in the fourth to tighten the score to 21-18 with less than seven minutes left. SMU slowed things down on the next drive, however, and held onto the ball for the win.
