Parnell Ready to Start if Called On

Starting right tackle Doug Free is dealing with an ankle injury

Dallas Cowboys tackle Jermey Parnell is ready to go if Doug Free is unable to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts at AT&T Stadium.

Free suffered an ankle injury in the 38-21 victory over the Eagles in Philadelphia and was forced to miss the entire second half. Fortunately, it was not the dreaded high ankle sprain and Jerry Jones himself has expressed optimism that Free will be ready by Sunday afternoon.

But if he can’t, Parnell will step in, as he did on Sunday night.

As a swing tackle in this league, you’ve got to always be prepared,” Parnell said, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “That’s point blank, period. The reps out on the field to in the classroom, just always be prepared, and you’ll be ready.”

If Parnell is thrust into the starting lineup on Sunday, it won’t be the first time this year. Back in October, Free suffered a foot injury, and Parnell ended up starting in three games.
