Lewis Brinson has been on a tear lately in High-A High Desert. The center fielder was bound to be promoted to Double-A Frisco soon, and on Thursday, he was.
Of course, Brinson was helped by the spot cleared off Frisco's roster by outfielder Nick Williams moving to Philadelphia in the Cole Hamels deal, and now Brinson slides into Williams' spot in the Frisco lineup as the next big bat to watch in the Rangers' system.
Brinson hit two homers a couple of days ago and at that point, had hit .500 in his last 40 at-bats with six home runs. That's the definition of red-hot.
The 21-year-old has an athletic frame at 6-3, 170 pounds and has been successful now for a couple of years in Class-A ball.
Brinson has been raking this year in High Desert, but it must be taken with a grain of salt given the California League's inflated offensive numbers. Even still, he's batting .337 with 13 homers and 42 RBIs. He's also stolen 13 bases and has a solid 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio.
Brinson's numbers will take an expected dip in Frisco, mostly because of the step up in competition but also because of the environment, but if he can continue to develop like he has, he could be the next big name in the Rangers' system.
