Olympic Day Draws Fans to Dallas Sports Festival

If you can't make it to Rio this summer, you still have a chance to see some of the athletes in action.

Many of them are in town for the Dallas Sports Festival, which runs through this weekend at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center.

The festival kicked off Friday with Olympic Day, which included numerous games and activities, and lessons taught by Olympic athletes.

Members of the U.S. Men’s Volleyball Team, Fencing Team and U.S. Olympic Boxer Errol Spence, Jr. of DeSoto, also signed autographs.

Organizers say Olympic Day is aimed at exposing children to activities and sports they may otherwise not have access to.

β€œTo get that exposure, some of these young athletes and even those in our community outside the events center taking place, having a dream to maybe compete at that level one day so meeting these athletes here goes a long way,” said Monica Paul, executive director of the Dallas Sports Commission, which is hosting the festival.

The festival runs through Sunday with several boxing, fencing and volleyball competitions.

The U.S, Men’s Volleyball team takes on Bulgaria on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the FIVB World League competition.
