Nowitzki Plays Coy Over Free Agent Status

Mavs forward says he wants to “keep my options open”

Dirk Nowitzki isn't saying yet whether he's going to become a free agent or return to the Dallas Mavericks next season.

Nowitzki said he needs a week or two to get over his disappointment after the Mavs were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round by San Antonio.

The former MVP can opt out of his contract July 1. He's always said he wants to remain in Dallas his entire career, but he said Friday he plans "to keep my options open and see what happens."
