North Texas New Home for Pro Tennis Team

Professional team tennis is coming back to North Texas.

World Team Tennis officials announced Wednesday that Irving will be the new home for the team leaving Kansas City, Mo.

Irving officials have agreed to pay $400,000 for the team to move for the 2013 season.

Seven matches are scheduled for July. Eight cities have teams.

The co-owner of the Kansas City Explorers, Jeff Launius, recently told the Dallas Morning News he'd like to keep the team in Irving for 20 years.

Under the deal, Irving would pay $250,000 to the Explorers and $150,000 for court renovations at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas.

Texas has had professional team tennis before, in Houston and Dallas. Dallas won a WTT championship in the 1990s.
